If living things don’t grow, there is a problem. Fruit trees can’t stay small. They must grow to bear fruit. Human beings can’t remain as babies. They must grow up to impact others and even reproduce.
Growth as a church is also important. The church is not a building, it is a living entity made up of believers. A healthy church should see new faces in the congregation on a regular basis.
However, do not mistake people transferring from other churches to your church as healthy church growth. The church needs the right kind of growth—growth by conversion.
If you are not seeing new believers as a result of the ministry of your church, there may be a problem. There may be barriers to growth. Just as a tree may not grow because of lack of water, sunshine, or nutrients from the soil, so there may be barriers to healthy church growth by conversion.
